Form 16 is the document provided by your employer if they deduct taxes from your income throughout the fiscal year. It includes all the information about your salary income as well as the tax that your firm paid to the income tax department on your behalf.
If your income exceeds the basic exemption threshold and you have not filed the necessary paperwork as approved by the income tax department, your tax will be withheld. Form 16 will help you find the amount of tax deducted by the employer so that you can obtain the income tax return from the IT department, for instance, if you have not invested in plans exempt under section 80C, do not have a home loan, or were unable to submit these documents within the allotted time.
How Does Form 16 Affect Income Tax?
Form 16 is divided into Part A and Part B. You need to download both portions from the site that your company provided.
Form 16—Part A
You can match the amount of tax deducted from your salary slips with the information provided in Part A of Form 16, which also provides information on the employer's total tax deduction for the fiscal year, including the employee's PAN and the employer's PAN and TAN.
Form 16: Section B
Form 16's Part B includes a number of elements, including gross pay, allowances (such as the House Rent Allowance and Special Allowance) and benefits (such as a company-provided automobile or lodging for the duration of the fiscal year).
When is Form 16 Generated?
Typically, companies provide Form 16 for their staff by June 15th of the following year, at the latest, for the fiscal year in which taxes have been withheld.
Employers or corporations are required by income tax legislation to provide Form 16 to employees by June 15 in the event that tax has been withheld from their pay income.
For the financial year 2023–2024, an ITR reporting deadline of July 31, 2024, will see the issuance of a TDS certificate this year.
