Day one box office revenue for Vettaiyan: Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan's TJ Gnanavel flick gets off to a strong start. In India, the movie has taken in over INR 25 crore at the box office.
Box Office Figures
On October 10, TJ Gnanavel's Vettaiyan was released in theaters. Sacnilk.com reports that Vettaiyan had a successful opening day at the box office on Thursday. On its first day, the movie brought in about ₹25.27 crore (net in India) across all languages. On Thursday, the movie's total occupancy was 53.96% in the Tamil sector, 34.15% in the Telugu sector, 8.11% in the Hindi sector, and 10.79% in the Kannada sector.
On social media, the movie has been receiving conflicting reviews in the interim. While some found the picture underwhelming, others are praising the cast and the filmmakers. One X fan described what they considered to be Vettaiyan's positive aspects, describing the screenplay as "interesting" and revealing that the movie tackles "core issues" in society. The best part, they continued, is that Thalaivar is not alone even though he leads the way and dominates the picture. While mass films and films with social messages are readily available, it is quite uncommon to discover a film that truly strikes the mark.
Another fan said, "Not a regular #Rajinikanth movie, it's more of a Gnanavel movie," saying that it wasn't a jailer and that the mass scenes "fall flat." Good content, but most of the big sequences are uninteresting. The star of the show is #FahadhFaasil. Rajini-Fafa Combo sequences were refreshing. Worth seeing in theaters, but don't anticipate a jailer
Regarding the Movie
The movie centers on Sharanya (Dushara Vijayan), a Kanyakumari government school teacher who exposes the drug trafficking that occurs around the school. Renowned for his encounter killings, Kanyakumari SP Athiyan (Rajinikanth) takes on the case. The case is only the start of a bigger scandal, but he manages to apprehend the drug scion and administer "justice" through an encounter.
Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati are also featured in the movie. Following the 1991 Hindi film Hum, Vettaiyan is Rajinikanth and Amitabh's first film together in thirty-three years. Amitabh makes his Tamil film debut as well.
A credible source reports that TJ Gnanavel, the director, has attempted to integrate "many issues in Vettaiyan." He explores the nation's coaching industry while attempting to address the ethics of police encounter deaths on the one hand. He demonstrates to us the shadowy side of the coaching industry, particularly with regard to tests like NEET, whereby individuals unable to pay the exorbitant fees become entangled in bank loans and EMIs and ultimately face bankruptcy. According to the critic, "this is what affects the film - director Gnanavel is unable to balance Rajinikanth's star power with his social discourse on these themes."
