Tata Electronics, part of the electronics manufacturing division of Tata Group, has acquired a controlling 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India Private Limited, also known as PTI.
The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, but this will enable Tata Electronics to expand its local iPhone manufacturing operations.
This comes after Tata Electronics acquired Wistron's India operations in March 2024.
Under this deal, Tata Electronics will emerge with a majority interest in PTI and collaborate with the latter to integrate their teams towards better operations. PTI will rebrand itself to reflect ownership and a strategic direction but deliver world-class electronics manufacturing services. This acquisition cements Tata Electronics as one of India's major players in electronics manufacture.
Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, stated, "Acquiring a majority stake in Pegatron Technology India Private Limited aligns with Tata Electronics' strategy to expand our manufacturing presence. We are excited to usher in a new era of AI, digital, and technology-driven manufacturing as we develop these new facilities and broaden our operations in India."
Pegatron India, a subsidiary of Taiwanese Pegatron Corporation, provides contract-based electronic manufacturing services to major clients, including Apple.
The acquisition of major stakes in the company by Tata Electronics has just received the approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Other than Pegatron and Wistron, Tata Electronics is also constructing a second facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, to augment its iPhone production capacity in India.
