According to the BSE website, Indian stock benchmarks will be closed on Thursday (August 15) to celebrate Independence Day. The equity, equity derivative, and security lending and borrowing (SLB) segments will be closed. Currency Derivatives Segments will also be closed for Independence Day and Parsi New Year celebrations.
Commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts sectors will be closed in the morning and evening trading sessions.
Domestic benchmarks closed higher on Wednesday, boosted by increases in technology sectors. The 30-share BSE Sensex pack advanced 150 points, or 0.19 percent, to settle at 79,106, while the wider NSE Nifty index gained 5 points, or 0.02 percent, to finish at 24,144.
The broader market (mid- and small-cap shares) closed down, with the Nifty Midcap 100 down 0.59% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 down 0.64%. India VIX, the fear index, fell 4.40 percent to 15.44.
13 of the 16 sectoral indexes on the NSE closed in the green. The sub-indices Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer beat the index, advancing 1.58% and 0.11%, respectively. In contrast, Nifty Metal and Nifty Pharma fell 1.26 percent and 0.81 percent, respectively.
On the BSE, frontline stocks such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, HCLTech, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, M&M, SBI, ITC, and Tata Motors contributed significantly to the gain. In addition, BSE 500 equities such as Chennai Petroleum, Paytm, PB Fintech, Uno Minda, First Solutions, Mahindra Lifespace, Equitas Small Finance Bank, Cholamandalam Financial Holdings, and Adani Energy Solutions rose by 7.87 percent.
Piramal Enterprises, HEG, NMDC, Mahindra Holidays, BEML, PNC Infra, GPPL, Suzlon Energy, BASF, and Praj Industries all had their stock prices fall by 10.59 percent.
Of the 4,036 equities that traded on the BSE during the last transaction, 2,485 ended with losses and 1,442 concluded with gains. The remaining 109 stocks remained unchanged. Domestic bourses will reopen on August 16, 2024 (Friday).
