Before officially leaving office on Tuesday, Shaktikanta Das, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s departing governor, praised "Team RBI" in his farewell message.
"A HUGE thank you to the entire Team RBI," Shaktikanta Das said on X. "Together, we managed to get through a very challenging time of unheard-before worldwide shocks. May the RBI continue to rise as a reputable and trustworthy organization. I wish you all the very best."
The former official also expressed gratitude to the economy's and banking sector's stakeholders. The fiscal-monetary cooperation was at its best and helped us to deal with multiple challenges during the last six years under the leadership of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, for which he also expressed his heartful thanks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance and encouragement" and the "opportunity to serve the country as RBI chair were two things Das was immensely grateful for.
He continued, "benefited greatly from his (PM's) ideas and thoughts."
Das was the government's unexpected choice to run the central bank in December 2018. He took Urjit Patel's place.
Das was granted a three-year extension by the government in 2021. Last month, there were rumors that Das would get a second extension.
With the extension, he would have become the Reserve Bank's longest-serving leader in almost 70 years.
