US-based Global Finance magazine has named Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das the world's best central banker for the second year running.
"Happy to announce that for the 2nd consecutive year, RBI Governor @DasShaktikanta has been rated 'A+', in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024," the RBI wrote in a post to X.
Out of the three governors of the central bank, Das has received the highest rating of A+.
According to a statement by Global Finance magazine, grades are based on a scale from A to F for performance in managing interest rates, controlling inflation, achieving economic growth objectives, and maintaining currency stability.
An 'A' denotes exceptional achievement, whereas a 'F' indicates complete failure. The 'A+' group of central bankers includes Christian Kettel Thomsen of Denmark, Shaktikanta Das of India, and Thomas Jordan of Switzerland.
"For the past few years, central bankers have been fighting inflation with rising interest rates as their main weapon. As a consequence of these efforts, countries all over the world are now observing the noticeable effects, as inflation has dramatically decreased "it claimed.
Additionally, it said that each year, Global Finance's Central Banker Report Cards recognize bank executives whose innovative, creative, and persistent methods surpassed those of their counterparts.
Since 1994, Global Finance has produced the Central Banker Report Cards, which rank the central bank governors of around 100 nations, territories, and districts, including the European Union, the Central Bank of the Eastern Caribbean, the Bank of Central African States, and the Central Bank of West African States.
