Starting May 1, cab rides booked through Ola, Uber, and Rapido in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Baramati will be charged at Maharashtra government-approved rates, just like autorickshaws. According to reports, the Indian Gig Workers Front confirmed the move, with its president, Keshav Kshirsagar, stating that the decision was made at a recent cab drivers meeting.
What Are The New Rates?
The first 1.5 km costs Rs 37, with an additional Rs 25 per km thereafter. So, if you travel 10 kilometres, you will have to pay approximately Rs 249.50. Currently, a similar ride typically costs around Rs 175 (no surge). On Friday at 9 p.m., a 10-kilometer UberGo ride from Ghole Road to Salunke Vihar Road cost Rs 219.
Check Fare on the New Website
To make things easier and more transparent, a new website, www.onlymeter.in, is being launched.
This is how it works:
- Each cab will have a QR code and a brief guide displayed inside.
- After your ride, go to the website and enter the distance you traveled.
- The website will display the exact fare you must pay based on the government-approved rate.
Currently, approximately 45,000 cabs operate on these app-based platforms in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. All of them are expected to follow the new rules.
