The State Budget for Madhya Pradesh's fiscal year 2024–25, estimated by Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda at Rs 3,65,067 crores, is a significant increase of 16% over the previous budget of Rs 3.14 trillion. Amidst a massive outrage over the purported nursing college fraud, Devda presented the budget. The Opposition Congress party was behind the commotion.
Ten developments regarding the Madhya Pradesh budget for 2024–25:
1. Devda said that the Women and Child Development Department will get Rs 26,560 crore in the budget, a significant increase of 81% above the budget estimate for 2023–24.
2. The budget proposes a total of Rs 21,444 crore for the health sector. The government also allocated Rs 66,605 crore for agriculture and related industries and Rs 52,682 crore for education.
3. The sports and youth welfare sector has received Rs 586 crore in the current budget. Devda has announced Rs 10,279 crore for public health engineering. The Culture Department has received a budget request of Rs 1,081 crore.
4. In the energy sector, the government has budgeted Rs 19,406 crore, an almost Rs 1,000 crore increase over the previous fiscal year.
5. The Mohan Yadav-led Bharatiya Janata Party administration has planned Rs13,596 crore to build and maintain irrigation projects in Madhya Pradesh.
6. The government has also proposed a Rs 40,804 crore plan under the Scheduled Tribes Sub-Plan to integrate the tribe into mainstream society. A similar plan of Rs 27,900 crore has been presented for the Scheduled Castes. Devda further stated that Rs1,704 crore has been suggested for the benefit of disadvantaged classes, minorities, nomadic and semi-nomadic people.
7. The proposal for rural development has received a larger allocation than urban development. While Rs 27,870 crore is suggested for panchayat and rural development in FY 2024-25, Rs 16,744 crore is projected for urban development.
8. The government has also planned a boost for public welfare schemes, including pensions, with a proposal of Rs 4,421 crore in the budget, a 15% increase over last year.
9. The MP government has earmarked Rs 4,190 crore for the industry sector, a significant increase of around 40% over previous year.
