Lenovo, the worldwide PC leader, increases its focus on India to solidify its position as a primary manufacturing center and R&D facility with export operations while achieving 2.5 billion USD in annual revenue through FY2025. Top executives unveiled this news at the Lenovo TechWorld India 2025 event held in Mumbai on March 5 during which they shared their visionary objectives.
Matthew Zielinski, President, International Markets, Lenovo, emphasized India’s growing role in the company’s global strategy. “We're celebrating 20 years in India this year… Our manufacturing footprint in India is not only building for India, but it's also establishing India as a huge exporter for all of our operations all around the world,” he said. Zielinski noted that in 2024, Lenovo built and shipped products worth Rs 18,000 crore from India, reflecting its significant export focus. He added, “We just have seen an enormous amount of success in the Indian market. Our Motorola business was up about 21% in revenue as a company, 15% in units,” with the Motorola segment achieving an 8% market share and triple-digit growth of 100-160%.
Lenovo has increased its domestic manufacturing activities by producing all its phone models in India while planning further expansion efforts. The Managing Director of Lenovo India Shailendra Katyal announced the company's plan to enhance its PC production capacity from 30% to 50% during the upcoming year with a goal to achieve 100% local PC manufacturing within three years between its sites and PLI 2.0 collaboration with Dixon Technologies. A new Puducherry manufacturing plant will establish production of 50,000 AI servers and 2,400 GPU units yearly which will start selling from April 2024.
The company uses its Bengaluru R&D facility with 400 staff members to advance AI technology developments. . Zielinski stated, “We're really going to use India as a hub to develop next-generation artificial intelligence, GPUs-based servers. A lot of expertise and design work will take place right here in India, obviously in Bangalore.” Lenovo intends to grow its Indian workforce beyond 14,000 employees while integrating local professionals with international market goals to develop AI capabilities.
