Liquor prices are expected to rise in Karnataka. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an increase in alcohol excise duty in his state budget to boost sales of Indian-made liquor, a substantial source of revenue for the state government.
This is the second time in seven months that the Congress-led government in this southern state has decided to increase beer taxes.
The tax change will bring Karnataka's liquor prices in line with those of neighboring states. According to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, beer prices will rise.
In his Budget, the Chief Minister announced a ₹7.5 crore investment in 50 café hotels run solely by women across the state. These cafes will prioritize serving local food.
He also promised to reform the APMC Act to remove "anti-farmer" provisions. The state will also establish a high-tech commercial flower market in Bengaluru and a Spice Park in Chikkamagalur district using the PPP model. Foodparks are anticipated to open in three districts.
The Chief Minister of Karnataka has announced the establishment of a 73-kilometer-long Bengaluru Business Corridor with a budget of ₹27,000 crore, despite ongoing opposition protests. The route was previously known as Peripheral Ring Road.
