Investors hoping to capitalize on Thursday's rally will have to wait, as both the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and the NSE (National Stock Exchange) are closed. The stock markets will be closed on Friday, April 18, for Good Friday, giving traders a long weekend to plan their next moves.
All market segments, including equity, derivatives, currency, commodities, and debt, will remain closed. Today, no funds or securities will be settled. This closure is part of the list of official stock market holidays announced by the BSE and NSE at the start of each year.
This week has been short for stock market participants. The markets were open for only three days, from April 15 to April 17. They were closed on Monday, April 14, in honour of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti. With Good Friday falling on April 18, investors and traders will have two non-trading days in one week.
Markets were closed last Thursday, April 10, in observance of Mahavir Jayanti. The month of April has seen three official trading holidays.
MCX IS ALSO CLOSED TODAY
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), which facilitates commodity trading in India, is also closed today. The morning and evening trading sessions have been canceled in honor of the Good Friday holiday.
With today's break, all stock market holidays in April are over. The next closure will be on May 1, Maharashtra Day. Following that, the stock markets will be closed on August 15 for Independence Day and August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi.
This year's market holidays will be most concentrated in October. There are three scheduled breaks that month: Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra on October 2, Diwali on October 21, and Diwali Balipratipada on October 22nd.
