With an emphasis on improving financial literacy, safeguarding investors, and promoting sustainable growth in the capital markets, a workshop was held to examine the revolutionary potential of digital technology.
The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) organized it in association with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
The workshop, held at the BSE International Convention Hall in Mumbai, has as its theme "Digitalization of Financial Education: A Modern Approach for Investor Protection and Capital Market Development."
Sundararaman Ramamurthy, CEO and Managing Director of BSE India Ltd., gave the opening remarks before the workshop started. Sundararaman discussed the BSE's dedication to advancing investor education and the part that digitization plays in enabling investors to make well-informed decisions.
The keynote speaker was Anita Shah Akella, the Chief Executive Officer of IEPFA and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. She talked about IEPFA's role in ensuring that investors have the tools and resources necessary to understand the complexities of the financial markets, as well as the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen investor protection laws.
"In today's digital age, it is essential for investors to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to make informed financial decisions. Additionally, she discussed the importance of digital education in updating financial literacy programs across India," she added.
"We can empower citizens and promote sustainable growth in our capital markets by embracing technology to make sure that investor protection and financial education reach every corner of India," she continued.
A prominent group of professionals discussed several facets of capital market development, investor protection, and digital financial education.
Among the speakers were Navneet Munot, Chairman of AMFI and Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer at HDFC AMC Ltd.; Dr. CS Mohapatra, IEPF Chair Professor at NCAER; Shashikumar V, Executive Director at SEBI; and Sashi Krishnan, Director at NISM and former Chief Executive Officer of NPS Trust.
Bharat Panchal, a cyber security expert and former chief of risk management at NPCI, and Kamala Kantharaj, a capital market expert and chief regulatory officer at BSE India Ltd., also took part.
The Chief Risk Officer at BSE India Ltd., Khushro Bulsara, praised the efforts of all presenters and attendees and emphasized that the workshop is a significant step towards creating a more secure and technologically savvy financial environment for Indian investors.
