Raincheck Earth Co., the maker of the alcoholic beverage startup Cherrapunji Craft Gin, has raised USD 1.2 million in a pre-Series A round from Japanese investors. AngelList India Syndicate also participated in the round, increasing their stake in previous investments. The startup completed its seed round in May 2023.
The proceeds will be used to expand domestically and globally, increasing Cherrapunji Craft Gin's distribution and visibility in key markets.
Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin, founded by Mayukh Hazarika, will be launched in 2023 from Cherrapunji, Meghalaya. The North East Indian town is known as the rainiest place on earth, with the world record for the most rainfall in a year, and it is this rainwater that is purified and combined with North East Indian botanicals to create Cherrapunji Gin.
According to the company, its bottles are made of military-grade stainless steel with the goal of reducing the gin's carbon footprint and providing a reusable container, and in 2024 Cherrapunji Gin was voted 'Gin Bottle of the Year 2024' by The Gin Guide readers and followers.
The company claims to have gained significant global recognition for its flagship product, which has already received 13 global awards since its launch.
