Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, stated that internal tensions, including the US election, will be the "highlight of this year". There may be disagreements about whether the US election results will be accepted by both sides - Republicans led by Donald Trump and Democrats led by incumbent President Joe Biden.
Reflecting on both candidates, Ray Dalio stated that Donald Trump's policies would be substantially different from Joe Biden's. During a video appearance at the Greenwich Economic Forum in Hong Kong, he stated that the two parties agree on most anti-China policies.
He stated, "There's a significant chance of economic sanctions, which would be disastrous for the world. "Economic warfare precedes military warfare." While there is unlikely to be an impending military clash over Taiwan, he stated that the one-China policy "will not last forever."
He warned Western investors that "American investors investing in China may face negative consequences from their governments." There is also concern that the Chinese may complicate matters." He stated that there have been concerns in the Hong Kong and Chinese stock markets this year. He stated that Chinese assets are very attractively valued, and Bridgewater has done exceptionally well in China over the previous five years.
