A woman from Bengaluru has discovered new data showing how quick-commerce sites employ distinct pricing schemes for consumers of Android and Apple devices. In a straightforward experiment, Instagram user Pooja Chhabda found that Zepto charges iPhone customers more than twice as much for the identical goods as Android users.
Chhabda launched Zepto on an Android phone and an iPhone. She demonstrated how 500 grams of grapes cost INR 65 on the Android phone. However, the same quantity of grapes cost more than twice as much (INR 146) for Apple iPhone customers.
This wasn't the only time iPhone owners paid more for the same goods. Chhabda demonstrated how capsicum was advertised to cost INR 37 on Zepto when using an Android but increased to INR 69 on an iPhone. The Bengaluru woman was astonished by the "huge difference" and requested her followers to check to see whether they were also paying extra when using an iPhone.
The cost gap between Apple and Android is sometimes ascribed to imagined disparities in customer demographics. E-commerce sites may believe that iPhone users have larger disposable incomes and are hence more willing to pay more.
Waht People had to say in Comments section
"I think the logic is when you can pay so much extra for the same features that are available on some Androids then you must be willing to pay extra for everything," a user of Instagram said.
"It's a very serious issue and if this continues.. I will surely re- think about continuing with the iPhone," another wrote.
"It's not an iPhone vs an Android, but rather a comparison of low-cost and high-end phones. "You will notice differences not only in prices, but also in availability, delivery times, and so on," one user speculated. However, Zepto has given any statement till date.
