Ram Mohan Naidu on June 13 announced his commitment towards ensuring more affordable airfares for domestic flights. This statement was made soon after taking over as the aviation minister.
The aviation minister said that his focus would be towards reducing the cost of flying for the common man while addressing the media after assuming office. He said this will be his utmost priority for the Ministry of Civil Aviation. He further stated, "My priority is to create ease of flying for the common man in India." Furthermore, he added that he will make sure to bring benefits out of the revamped policy schemes from the ministry so the layman can reap the benefits.
Naidu on 12th June had also expressed his concern regarding the growing concern related to an upsurge of air travel costs. Naidu emphasized his intention towards consulting with various stakeholders before coming to a verdict. He underscored his commitment towards prioritizing the interests of the common man as mentioned above in all regulatory measures taken by his department.
Furthermore, Naidu also highlighted his focus on expediting pending projects in his home state of Andhra Pradesh. He further reiterated that the welfare of the common citizen would remain at the core of his agenda.
The airlines are required to set affordable tariffs so as to provide transparent information on fare structures as airline fares are deregulated under current regulations. Furthermore, fares within a specified range are deemed compliant with existing rules while airlines must adhere to sector-wise fare disclosures on their websites.
